The 917 Society is reaching our youth across America to honor and celebrate Constitution Day September 17th, 20204

As we approach another Constitution Day, it's important to recognize the efforts being made to ensure that future generations appreciate the significance of the document that has been the bedrock of American liberty for over two centuries. The 917 Society is leading the charge in this endeavor, reaching out to our nation's youth with an impactful message about the U.S. Constitution and its relevance in their lives today. It is a Federal Mandate,108-447, that all schools that receive federal funds are to have a program on the Constitution on our around September 17th each year. However, this mandate is unfunded. The 917 Society has made this their mission to reach our classrooms with Constitution education and works tirelessly all year to raise funds to provide their program free to schools.

A Nationwide Initiative

The 917 Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Constitutional education, has been working tirelessly to engage middle school students across the United States. Their mission is simple yet profound: to provide every 8th grader in America with a personal copy of the Constitution. By placing this foundational document directly in the hands of young Americans, the Society aims to spark an early interest in our nation's history and governance, fostering a generation that understands and values their Constitutional rights.

The Importance of Early Civic Education

Civic education is a cornerstone of a functioning republic, yet it has often been neglected in recent years. Many young people grow up with little knowledge of the Constitution or the principles it enshrines. The 917 Society seeks to reverse this trend by targeting students at a critical stage in their development. Eighth grade is a pivotal year when students begin to form their own opinions and understand their roles as citizens. By introducing them to the Constitution at this stage, the Society is ensuring that they carry a respect for the rule of law and individual liberties into adulthood.

Reaching Students Through Innovative Methods

The 917 Society employs a variety of methods to connect with students. In addition to distributing pocket-sized Constitutions, they offer digital resources, educational videos, and interactive tools designed to make learning about the Constitution engaging and relevant. These materials are made available to teachers free of charge, ensuring that even schools with limited resources can participate in Constitution Day activities.

Moreover, the Society's efforts extend beyond the classroom. By partnering with local communities, they organize events, essay contests, and public readings of the Constitution, creating opportunities for students to engage with the document in meaningful ways. These initiatives not only educate but also inspire young people to take pride in their heritage and become active participants in their democracy.

A Growing Impact

The impact of the 917 Society's work is evident in the growing number of students reached each year. What began as a small project in Tennessee has expanded into a nationwide movement, with thousands of schools participating and millions of students receiving their own copies of the Constitution. As Constitution Day approaches, the Society's volunteers and supporters are gearing up for another successful year of engagement, spreading the message of liberty and civic responsibility to even more young Americans.

Why It Matters

In a time when the Constitution is often misunderstood or underappreciated, the 917 Society's mission is more important than ever. By educating our youth about the principles that define our nation, we are not only preserving our heritage but also securing our future. The Constitution is more than just a historical document; it is a living testament to the ideals of freedom and justice. The 917 Society's work ensures that these ideals are passed down to the next generation, empowering them to uphold the values that make America exceptional.

As we celebrate Constitution Day, let us remember the importance of civic education and the role it plays in safeguarding our republic. The 917 Society is doing remarkable work in this area, and with continued support, they will continue to inspire and educate young Americans for years to come.
